Map showing location of Cuba

Cuba is the largest island in the Caribbean, being approximately 650 miles long and effectively marks the border between the Caribbean Sea, the Atlantic, and the Gulf of Mexico.
For most of the second half of the last century, Cuba's economy had relied heavily on trade with the Soviet Union. When this came to an end towards the end of the last century, the country made efforts to build it's tourist industry.

Cuba also includes a number of smaller islands, particularly on it's northern coast, and has become a popular tourist destination in recent years.
The main tourist attractions are the golden sandy beaches, water sports, and the Caribbean climate.

The official language of Cuba is Spanish although you are likely to find Cubans in the main tourist areas who speak some English.
